PRAIRIE SKINK Plestiodon (Eumeces) septentrionalis (Baird, 1858) 

STATUS:  Common

DOCUMENTED COUNTIES:  Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Somervell, Tarrant, and Wise

HABITAT:  Western Cross Timbers, Eastern Cross Timbers, Fort Worth Prairie, Trinity River Bottoms, Blackland Prairie, and Brazos River Bottoms

SUBSPECIES:  Southern Prairie Skink (P. s. obtusirostris  Bocourt, 1879)

     
COMMENTS:  The southern prairie skink population has declined in the Metroplex.
